Vastu ways to a better mental health

Mental health is a vital aspect of our well-being that affects how we think, feel and act. It also influences our ability to cope with stress, overcome challenges, build relationships and achieve our goals. However, many factors can negatively impact our mental health, such as personal problems, work pressure, environmental stressors and lifestyle habits.
We asked Vastu Acharya Manoj Shrivastava if there are some simple and effective ways to improve our mental health and enhance our quality of life. He says that the sole purpose of Vastu is to harmonize the energy flow in our surroundings to create a positive and balanced environment at home that supports our mental well-being and happiness.
Here are some Vastu tips that you can apply to your home to boost your mental health:
1. Meditation is a powerful practice that can calm your mind, reduce stress, increase focus and promote happiness. According to Vastu Shastra, the best direction for your meditation room is the east or north-east, as these directions are associated with positive energy, enlightenment, and wisdom. Facing east when you meditate will also help you align with the rising sun and its healing rays.
2. You can decorate your meditation room with soothing colours like white, beige, light yellow or green, and use candles, incense sticks or aroma diffusers to create a pleasant atmosphere. You can also place a sacred altar with your favourite deities, symbols or objects that inspire you.
3. Your main entrance should be designed and maintained in a way that attracts positive energy and repels negative energy. Vastu Acharya Manoj Shrivastava suggests that the main door should not only be the largest room in the house, but it should also open clockwise and towards the inside of the house.

4. The main door should not make any creaking noise when opened or closed. It should not face a bathroom, a shoe rack, a dustbin or any other source of clutter. It should be decorated with bright colours.
5. Your bedroom is where you spend most of your time relaxing, sleeping and rejuvenating. It is also where you share intimate moments with your partner and strengthen your bond. Therefore, it is essential to make your bedroom a comfortable, cozy and harmonious space that supports your mental health and relationship. The bed should be placed in such a way that your head faces south or east when you sleep.
6. The bed should not be placed under a beam, a window, or a ceiling fan, as these may cause stress, anxiety or health issues.
7. Avoid using beds with storage or box springs as they may trap negative energy.
8. The bedroom should have soothing colours like blue, green, pink or purple that create a relaxing mood. Avoid using bright colours like red, orange or yellow that may stimulate your nervous system and disturb your sleep.
9. The bedroom should have minimal furniture and accessories and should be free of clutter and electronic devices. This will help you create a spacious and serene environment that promotes restful sleep.
10. A cluttered space can lead to negative energy and can impact your mental health. Declutter your living or working environment by getting rid of unnecessary items and organizing your space. This will help create a positive and peaceful environment that promotes mental wellbeing.
11. Colors have a significant impact on our emotions and moods. According to Vastu, certain colors are more beneficial for mental health than others. For instance, shades of blue and green are calming and soothing, while warm colors such as red and orange can increase energy levels and excitement.
