An annual plant, Suran blossoms during the rainy season and is known by a number of names in India. In Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, it is known as Suran, but in Chhattisgarh, it is called Jimmikanda. In the South, it is known as Suvarnagadde by Kannadigas, Kaara Kuranai Kizhangu by Tamils, Kanda Gadda by Telugu speakers, and Chena by Malayalis. It is known as Oal or Ol in West Bengal, Assam, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
